Letters TO AMERICA Join the movement

Dear America,

Become someone’s reason
to check the mailbox.

We pair you with a senior 60 years young or older. You write one letter a month. Two generations — both lonely, both pulled back from the margins — one envelope at a time.

— with respect, the rest of us

Why your half hour matters

Your 30 minutes a month is more than a letter; it is a lifeline that rescues a forgotten soul from the crushing despair of isolation. By stepping out of the digital noise, you become the custodian of a senior’s legacy — and the reason they feel seen again.

Your modest one-time $11 contribution (if under 60) does double the good: we commit 20% of every dollar directly to critical financial relief for low-income seniors and vulnerable widows who are quietly struggling to get by.

You are not writing to a person, and no person is writing to you. Both sides are writing to America — because we are America, and each letter has the power to restore what makes us so uniquely American.

    Write, once a month

Thirty minutes. One page. Share a story, ask a question, listen. Then do it again next month.

    that’s the whole commitment

Two crises, one envelope

Loneliness is killing the old
and the young alike.

Our elders

Nearly 27% of older Americans live entirely alone — far above the global average. Prolonged loneliness raises the risk of early death by 26%, a toll comparable to heavy smoking, and is linked to a 50% higher risk of dementia.

Millions wait in senior facilities or empty homes, longing for someone who will simply listen.

Our young people

The most connected generation is the loneliest: 61% of young adults report serious loneliness. More than two hours a day on social media doubles the odds of feeling isolated.

A letter forces a screen-free pause — and gives a young writer an elder’s decades of perspective to lean on.

Pair them, and you solve both at once: the youth are grounded by the past, the elders are tethered to the present, and both are saved from the margins.

Go deeper —

The scale of the problem

As the oldest Baby Boomers turn 80, our aging society is being pushed to its limits. Nearly 27% of older Americans live entirely alone — a rate far higher than the global average. Social isolation is not just an emotional burden; it is a public-health crisis on par with obesity and heavy smoking.

The quiet economic hardship of our elders

More than 17 million older Americans — roughly 1 in 3 aged 65+ — are economically insecure. Over a third of older households are housing cost-burdened, and for older renters that climbs to 58%. Only 13% of single adults 75+ can afford assisted living without liquidating their assets.

That’s why we commit 20% of all income to low-income seniors, widows, and elders with no family who can’t cover basic, everyday expenses.

Why the most connected generation is the loneliest

61% of young adults report serious loneliness. Time on social media past two hours a day doubles the odds of feeling isolated, and digital communication has become transactional and performative. A physical letter forces a cognitive slowdown — a screen-free space for real reflection, anchored by an elder’s decades of perspective.

The people you'll meet

Every life deserves a stamp.

America puts the people it honors on postage. Your pen pal has earned theirs — you’re just the first to say so.

What we stand on

The key to the future is in the past.

“Now more than ever, the people are responsible for the character of their Congress… If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities.”

James A. Garfield our civic charge

“Stand up in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly, and revere your God.”

Leviticus 19:32 our faith

We cannot lean on our own pride and call it wisdom. We must seek those who walked before us — hear their stories, and let them guide our steps.
